Michael Chaplin, featured speaker for the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Monroe County Historical Association, delivers the presentation, "The Origin and Evolution of the Pennsylvania State Police, 1905-1937."
A Monroe County resident and graduate of Stroudsburg High School, Mr. Chaplin enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in 1969 and retired in 1993 after twenty five years of service. He is currently the 1st Vice President of the Pennsylvania State Police Historical, Educational, and Memorial Center, which includes the Pennsylvania State Police Museum in Hershey.
Mr. Chaplin’s presentation covers the history of the Pennsylvania State Police, the first uniformed State Police in the country, from when it was founded in 1905. He also describes the meaning of the State Police patch worn on the uniform and briefly shares the history of the first substation in the state in Stroudsburg.
