The time has arrived, to "enhance-paint" my Broadway Limited NYC J-1e Hudson! I am happy to have gotten a practice run in on a styrene model prior to starting this project. It was a real confidence booster! I recommend it as a good method of practice, to anyone unsure about painting their operating Steam Locomotives!
*Please forgive a few parts where I forgot to "mic up" - resulting in the viewer not being able to hear me very well! However, I was merely describing what I was doing, so if you watch the video, you should be able to "get it".
The look I am going for here is used, but not abused. While there are no longer any Hudson Locomotives roaming the countryside, there are a few left up north in Canada! The Canadian railways bought several back when they were being made, and had the foresight to keep them around. A few are still running excursions, but the rest are in museums.
Then, there is the last Hudson left in this country - Nickle Plate Road
#170 - at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri! Hey ... at least they're still around!
This is an in-depth, and complete, video into the painting of one of my favorite model Steam Locomotives ... and favorite Steam Locomotive in general! Nothing is left out, nothing is left unanswered, and nothing is left to the imagination ... it is ALL covered in detail here.
While I do not model any specific 'era' - I run a "Funlanced" Railroad - I wanted to give my Steamer the look they might have had back in their heyday ... the look they might have if they had survived here in the USA. Thus the method, and paint scheme I employed here.
