Due to Registration issue between BCA and BCCI, Ishan played for neighboring state Jharkhand after getting advice by the senior player and his close friend. He idolized Indian team captain M.S Dhoni and former Australian wicket keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist. In December 2015, he was named or lead as the captain of India’s squad for 2016 Under 19 Cricket WorldCup. On 6 November 2016, Ishan Kishan scored 273 runs against Delhi in the 2016-2017 Ranji Trophy. This is the highest score by a player for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. He played various Ranji Trophy during that time. He was leading run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, with 484 runs in six matches. He was selected to play Indian Premier League firstly in Gujarat Lions for 2016-2017 and then moves to Mumbai Indians in 2018 and plays currently for this team.
