Jai Bhim is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language legal drama film directed by T. J. Gnanavel and produced by Jyothika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment.
I don’t know much about Suriya, having only seen him in the mad-fun Soorarai Pottru and that one terrible short in the Navrasa anthology, but I do know that he was the original Singam, the hyper-masculine, fair but ultra-violent policeman, a character which inspired s Hindi remake, sequels, series, and now Hindi cinema mein, ‘Cop Universe’, ugh, is an actual thing.
Suriya as Singam was 2010, Suriya as Chandru is 2021, and this is the Suriya we need. In the hands of writer-director TJ Gnanavel, this Suriya is the mainstream movie star, capable of changing popular narratives, drawing attention where needed, and using money, cinema, and his position in power to immortalize stories of our people and systems.
