Narcissists live in a world of illusions. They live in a fantasy world that is like a house of mirrors. As you end a relationship with a narcissist, you have an opportunity to awaken from the illusion they believe in and have dragged you into. At first, you may have believed you met someone who could see the real you. It felt good, wonderful and exciting. The deeper an abandonment wound, the more you fall in love with a narcissist who idealizes you for the sake of their own delusions.
You have fallen in love with a fake but you don't know it. You are living out childhood fantasies yourself, subconsciously hoping the narcissist will feel the holes abandonment trauma, rejection, and emotional wounds of the past have caused. When the narcissist begins to see you as a 3D person, the conflict disrupts their fantasy of you in their head. You must be punished for being 'human.'
Codependency recovery relies on your ability to withstand the SHOCK of reality. You never loved the narcissist and the narcissist never loved you. If you can, you can leave the faulty paradigm behind and DELIBERATELY CREATE a CONSCIOUS LIFE.
