1. How to Stop Rectal Prolapse Worsening
Use the correct bowel emptying technique.
Improve your stool consistency (Type 3-4 Bristol Stool Scale).
Lose excess abdominal fat
Avoid heavy lifting, lift with lunge position and avoid deep squats.
Pelvic floor friendly exercises can reduce rectal prolapse symptoms and risk of worsening e.g. low impact exercises (walking, stationary bike) and safe gym resistance training.
2. How to Fix Rectal Prolapse Support
Improve prolapse support with Kegels to strengthen pelvic floor muscles. Pelvic floor muscles support the rectum and anus¹.
Kegels Exercises to Fix Rectal Prolapse Support
* Reposition the rectal prolapse inside
* Contract pelvic floor muscles
* Start with the number of exercises you can manage with correct technique
* Aim for 8-12 kegels, 3 times/day, 10 sec holds (women), longer for men
* Rest and relax pelvic floor muscles between kegel exercises
* Progress Kegels from lying to sitting and standing
Protect rectal prolapse by bracing the pelvic floor muscles using ‘The Knack’ exercise. Perform a strong Kegel exercise with heavy lifting, coughing and sneezing.
