Burt Richter discusses nuclear energy and how it fits into the growing needs of the world while considering how nuclear energy affects the economy, the environment and security. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics (1976) and the E.O. Lawrence Medal of the Department of Energy (1976). He is a former director of SLAC and received the American Association for the Advancement of Science Philip Hauge Abelson Prize (2007) for his world-class contributions to research, his successful management of a leading scientific laboratory, and his unrelenting efforts to advance science and to promote its responsible use in shaping public policy.
