Directed by Michael Curtis Johnson, the video follows the activism and actions of Project Say Something, Florence, AL. PSS has been immersed in a mission to confront racial injustice, as well as teach conscious individuals how to say something when faced with racism, homophobia, sexual abuse, sexism, classism. They are currently calling for the relocation of the Confederate monument that stands at the Lauderdale County courthouse to Soldier’s Rest in the Florence City Cemetery where Confederate soldiers are buried. The monument was erected in 1903 and dedicated with a speech full of anti-Black sentiment and a vision of white supremacy. PSS is an inspiration to those engaged in dismantling racism in small towns across the South. They, as well as many other groups, deserve our attention and support as they work to create a “New South” free of racism, sexism, homophobia and classism.
