This video discusses different concepts of "Shares" and highlights which ones are useful and should be used in valuation and financial analysis of a company. In particular, I discuss shares authorized, shares issued, treasury shares, shares outstanding, diluted shares common shares, preferred shares, free float, and shares short.
I also argue that the most relevant concept of shares that should be used in valuation is diluted shares, although it could be defined slightly different when doing different tasks, eg, when doing DCF versus multiples valuation.
