The Vickers 161, also known as the C.O.W Gun Fighter, was one of an odd group of interceptors. It was designed to attack a formation of bombers from below, using a 37mm Coventry Ordnance Works gun to blow them out of the sky.
Only one example of this weird biplane was made as it proved too difficult to mange for a single pilot. However more successful attempts at this concept of interceptor would eventually lead to the Boulton-Paul Defiant.
