Appellate Judge David Maraga Kenani was in the dock, fighting off allegations of soliciting bribes and tribalism, as he became the second judge to publicly appear before the vetting of judges and magistrates board, led by Sharad Rao. Justice Maraga was accused by the Rift Valley branch of the Law Society of Kenya of extortion and bribery, through an unnamed Nakuru political operative. The judge was also accused of favouritism on ethnic basis in making some of his rulings. But, as Francis Gachuri reports, Justice Maraga vehemently denied the accusations, even opting to swear by the bible, to protest his innocence.
